Daniel Ricciardo is “ready to go” as he prepares to return from injury for this weekend’s United States Grand Prix dumaguete
The 34-year-old Australian has missed the past five races after he broke his left hand in practice for the Dutch Grand Prix on August 25 dumaguete
Ricciardo, who took part in a Red Bull demonstration run in Nashville last weekend, will be back in his AlphaTauri cockpit for practice at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas on Friday dumaguete
New Zealander Liam Lawson, who has impressed as Ricciardo’s stand-in, will make way dumaguete
He said: “It’s good to be back! My hand is much dumaguete better and the simulator was a useful way of assessing it dumaguete
“I tried it out in the week before Qatar, but I didn’t feel it was at full potential, so I spent the rest of that week in the UK, spending more time in the sim, and got to a point where I felt ready to go dumaguete
“My overall fitness is fine as I kept training as much as I could, although I obviously couldn’t do much with my left hand or arm for a while dumaguete
“It was definitely frustrating watching the past few races, especially as I’d gotten myself to a place where I was so ready to go again and race, and then I did two events and had to hit pause again, but actually, the time without racing went quite quickly dumaguete
” Ricciardo was due to take part in only his third comeback race when he crashed in Zandvoort dumaguete
He was immediately taken to the medical centre before he was transported to a nearby hospital with his left arm in a sling dumaguete
A subsequent X-ray confirmed Ricciardo had sustained a break to the metacarpal on his left hand dumaguete
Ricciardo was ruled out of the race in Holland and the following rounds in Italy, Singapore, Japan and Qatar dumaguete
Ricciardo was handed a second chance by Red Bull’s junior team AlphaTauri following his dismissal by McLaren at the end of last season dumaguete
Despite his injury, AlphaTauri announced last month that they have retained the eight-time grand prix winner winner for 2024 alongside Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda dumaguete

England captain Owen Farrell has hit out at the abuse directed at Tom Curry after the flanker’s allegation that South Africa hooker Bongi Mbonambi directed a racial slur at him dumaguete
Curry has been the target of threats on social media after alleging that Mbonambi called him a “white c***” during England’s World Cup semi-final defeat to the Springboks last Saturday dumaguete
Curry’s club, Sale Sharks, said that they were “absolutely appalled” by the “nature and level” of abuse dumaguete
A World Rugby investigation into the incident is ongoing, with no conclusion likely until after Saturday’s World Cup final dumaguete
Steve Borthwick has picked Curry to start on the blindside in England’s bronze medal match against Argentina on Friday evening dumaguete
Farrell has slammed those sending his teammate abuse, believing it reflects a broken culture of social media criticism and abuse dumaguete
South Africa’s Bongi Mbonambi and England’s Tom Curry (PA)“He’s been first class, like he always is, this week,” Farrell said of Curry dumaguete
“What isn’t understandable is the amount of abuse he’s got [and] the effect that that has, not just on him dumaguete
“That is the bit that I, and we, really don’t understand dumaguete
And I know it seems to be going more and more like this, but it shouldn’t be, it shouldn’t be dumaguete
“You are dealing with people, with human beings dumaguete
Just because you’re saying stuff on your phone or behind a computer screen doesn’t make doesn’t make it acceptable dumaguete
It seems to be going more and more this way, and I don’t think it’s acceptable dumaguete
It doesn’t make me look fondly on engaging with people outside of the people that are close to you dumaguete
“[Curry] is one of the most honest, most hardworking blokes I’ve ever played with dumaguete
I hope he knows that everybody close to him, supports him, and backs him all the way dumaguete
”It was thought that Borthwick might leave the flanker out of his matchday 23 to face Argentina given the ongoing situation dumaguete
However, Borthwick insisted on Wednesday that Curry was “desperate to play” as England look to sign off their tournament on a high dumaguete
“This is not a Tom Curry incident,” Borthwick stressed dumaguete
“Somebody has said something in a game that he has reported and now this is a World Rugby and South Africa Rugby matter to deal with, not an England rugby or a Tom Curry matter dumaguete
Tom Curry is set to feature against Argentina (PA)“I chatted to Tom early in the week dumaguete
I think everyone saw when he came off that pitch when I took him off on Saturday night, he was cut and bloodied and exactly how Tom Curry plays dumaguete
“So I chatted to him about how he was physically with another six-day turnaround and he looked straight at me and point blank said: ‘I am desperate to play on Friday night dumaguete
’“This guy wants to play dumaguete
There is no doubt in my mind, he wants to be out there on Friday night and the way he has prepared through the week has been incredible dumaguete
But that is Tom Curry dumaguete
It is the way he does it every single week so I couldn’t be more proud of him from that side dumaguete
